The Simoon Glass Dining Table (2022), by Spanish designer and architect Patricia Urquiola, is a remarkably fresh design that reinvents an ancient material, equal parts substantial and evanescent. Crafted entirely from ultra-light, durable bonded glass reminiscent of luminous sea glass, the semi-translucent color feels ethereal yet bold enough to be a centerpiece, especially where it can reflect natural light and show off its gem-like hue. A simple square or round surface sits lightly atop a pedestal base of intersecting glass slabs, which “define these miniature architectures,” as Urquiola describes them. The surface is finished with ground, recycled Murano glass for a tactile contrast to the smooth lines, while the pedestal base delivers ample leg room to always add another person around the table.
